João Félix and Luis Suårez each bagged a brace as Atlético Madrid strengthened their top four chances with a win over Alavés on Saturday evening.
Scorers: JoĂŁo FĂ©lix 11âČ, 82âČ, SuĂĄrez (pen) 75âČ, 90âČ; Escalante 63âČ
AtlĂ©tico thought theyâd taken the lead after nine minutes when Thomas Lemar scored from Renan Lodiâs cross at the back post, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Their disappointment was short-lived however, with JoĂŁo FĂ©lix soon leaping like a salmon to guide home a header for 1-0.
Alavés had a chance to equalise in the first half when Luis Rioja had a sight of goal, but Jan Oblak was quick off his line to snuff it out.
The visitors did draw level just after the hour mark, when Ădgar MĂ©ndezâs pin-point cross was headed powerfully past Oblak by Gonzalo Escalante.
But Atlético went back in front when Florian Lejeune brought down Matheus Cunha in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Substitute Luis Suårez made no mistake from 12-yards for 2-1.
FĂ©lix then wrapped up the points with his second of the game, tucking in a rebound after Cunha was denied by the goalkeeper.
And there was still time for SuĂĄrez to net a second goal of his own to complete the rout late on.
Diego Simeoneâs side are third in LaLiga with Manchester City to come next.
