Despite having the upper hand for the majority of the first period, Chivas were unable to find a breakthrough in what was a pretty uneventful half of football.
Cristian Calderón has the best chance of the half when the ball was laid off to him on the edge of the penalty area, but the 24-year-old Mexican defender, in a more advanced role against Santos, dragged his shot wide.
The second half started much like the first, Chivas on the front foot and it took 15-minutes for the Flock to open the score.
Halftime substitute, José Juan Macías received a delightful backheel from Roberto Alvarado before dancing around a couple of challenges and firing an unstoppable strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.
As the game progressed Chivas retreated into themselves, creating a fragile lead as they invited the Santos pressure. However, the visitors couldn’t capitalise and despite a nervous finish Los Rojiblancos took all three points. Temperers flared at the final whistle and Dória was sent off for confronting the referee.
This victory was the host’s first since early February and takes Chivas up to ninth place in Liga Mx Clausura.
