Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has stepped down as manager of Burton Albion following Saturday’s defeat to Oxford United, the club has confirmed.

Hasselbaink leaves with the Brewers rock bottom of League One, having taken just one point from their first seven matches of the season.

The Dutchman’s assistant Dino Maamria will initially take charge of first-team matters with the support of the backroom staff.

“I have taken the club as far as I can with the limited resources available and it is time for someone else to come in and inject some new energy,” Hasselbaink told the club’s official website.

“I would like to thank the fans, and everyone associated with the club, including the Chairman, and to wish them all the best in the future.”

The former Chelsea and Leeds United striker returned to the Pirelli Stadium in January 2021 having previously enjoyed a successful spell in charge of the club between 2014 and 2015.

Last season the 50-year-old successfully steered Burton away from relegation from League One, but a poor start to the new season has resulted in his resignation.
