Jill Scott winner caps perfect week as Everton defeat Spurs | OneFootball

Jill Scott capped off her memorable week by heading the winner as Everton beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the Women’s Super League.

Two penalties from Valerie Gauvin – on seven and 18 minutes respectively – got Everton off to a flier before Spurs restored parity through Angela Addison and Gemma Davison.

The headlines, however, would go to on-loan midfielder Scott, whose header on 61 minutes won the match for her side.

Spurs handed Esther Morgan her first senior start, while Rosella Ayane came back into the starting line up. Everton, meanwhile, gave Nicole Sorensen a start after her point saving goal at Reading last month.

A frantic opening 20 minutes saw the away side take an early 2-0 lead thanks to two spot-kicks. A handball from Ria Percival and a foul from Kerys Harrop allowed French international Gauvin to place home from the penalty spot.

Spurs responded well and got back into the game when a delightful chipped finish from Addison pulled her side back into the game. Although they went into half-time behind, they deservedly got back on level terms early in the second period. Davison’s mazy run ended with her hitting home a sumptuous half volley.

Spurs’ hard work was undone only four minutes later though. Scott, fresh from her 150 Lionesses appearance, headed beyond Aurora Mikalsen after a superb corner.

Everton almost extended their lead moments later through Hayley Raso, but it’ll be Spurs who leave the most frustrated having seen a Shelina Zadorsk effort cannon off the post late on.

The win keeps the Toffees in fifth place, four points behind fourth placed Arsenal, while Spurs remain in eighth.
