Jesús Corona could become Chivas’ newest goalkeeper if Cruz Azul fail to meet his contract renewal demands.

The 40-year-old shot-stopper has been offered a one-year deal from La Maquina, who he has served since 2009. However, he is holding out for a two-year contract with plans to retire in 2023.

It’s believed Chivas sporting director Ricardo Peláez has already participated in discussions with the 54-time Mexico international, which could allow him to retire and live closer to family in his home city of Guadalajara.

Of course, no decisions will be made until after the Liga MX final. The first leg takes place tonight while the all-important return leg will go down on Sunday.

Corona is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in Liga MX history, making a total of 454 all-time appearances for Cruz Azul.

He once played for Chivas back in 2005, famously starting both legs of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals against Boca Juniors, earning a pair of clean sheets.
