Speaking exclusively to Sky Germany, Lyon defender Jérôme Boateng hasn’t ruled out a potential return to former club Hamburg.

“I’ve noticed that many fans want me to return to HSV,” said Boateng. “I’m very happy about that and I can only say, don’t rule anything out.” The former Bayern Munich and Germany international added:

“I’m not thinking about the end of my career for a long time. I want to be in top form again in the summer and I only have good memories of Hamburg. This club with these fans and this beautiful city belongs in the Bundesliga.”

Boateng is in the final year of his contract at Lyon but despite a report late last year suggesting that the Ligue 1 side may be looking to sell the central-defender this month, Boateng denied a potential exit.

Since his departure from Bayern Munich in 2021, Boateng (34) has played just 31 games for Lyon, but fell out of favour under Peter Bosz towards the end of the Dutchman’s tenure.

Boateng played for Hamburg between 2007 and 2010 before joining Manchester City, where he played for one season before joining Bayern Munich, a club he represented 363 times.
