Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Jeremie Frimpong’s injury which he picked up on international duty with the Netherlands is not as serious as first thought.

Frimpong had left the Netherlands camp after suffering a hip injury, however after returning to Germany on Friday and having tests conducted by Leverkusen the injury is not serious. The aim is for the 22-year-old to be fit for Leverkusen’s first game back after the international break against Werder Bremen.

The 22-year-old is one of Leverkusen’s key players in his right-wing-back role having scored three times and assisted five in 11 Bundesliga games this season. This means if Frimpong were to miss any games for Leverkusen, there currently is not a suitable backup for him. New signing Arthur is currently out injured while Josip Stanišić does not provide the same output attacking-wise as the Dutch international.

Leverkusen currently sits top of the Bundesliga two points clear of Bayern Munich in second place. They have won every single game this season bar one, which was a 2-2 draw against Bayern in September.
