Jed Wallace has admitted that is ‘more-than happy’ to sign a new contract with Millwall this summer – but he will not make a decision on his future until his wedding has taken place.

The 28-year-old’s next move is very much up in the air, with his Lions deal expiring after a five-year permanent stint with the London club.

What year did Neil Harris first sign for Millwall?

1996 1997 1998 1999

Nottingham Forest and Turkish giants Besiktas were linked with moves for the winger in the January transfer window, but Wallace revealed he wasn’t close to departing The Den midway through the 2021-22 season.

This summer is potentially a different story though, with Millwall’s divisional rivals West Bromwich Albion said to be lining up a lucrative contract offer for Wallace, according to Alan Nixon.

And whilst he wants to play in the Premier League at some point in his career still, Wallace has not shut the door on staying with the club he has played for for the last five years.

“I have been at Millwall six years now which is rare in modern day football.

“I have stayed there a long time and I always appreciate them taking me out of Wolves when nobody else really wanted me.

“I’ve never lost sight of that and didn’t jump ship at the first chance.

“Now I am getting married.

“I always said from February/March time, I wanted to finish the season – see where Millwall finished, get married and then think about what I am going to do after that. That’s not really changed.

“What I will say is I have loved my time at Millwall and if that carries on I am more than happy with that.”

The Verdict

If Wallace were to stay at Millwall, then that would represent a big plot twist.

Many believe that he has now perhaps outgrown the Lions and that he deserves to either be playing at an automatic promotion-chasing Championship side or better yet, a Premier League club.

At 28, Wallace isn’t getting younger and he now has a limited window to chase his Premier League dreams.

Therefore, you cannot blame him if he does move on from Millwall – if he does stay put though then it would signal a major bout of loyalty to the club, something that is extremely rare in modern-day football.
