Franco-Congolese striker Jean-Philippe Mateta (25) has made the decision to leave Crystal Palace, according to a report from L’Équipe. The former Lyon forward is said to be frustrated with his limited playing time with the South London club, so much so that he wishes to move on during next summer’s transfer window.

Mateta sealed a permanent €11m move from Mainz to Crystal Palace in 2021 and had put pen to paper over a 5-year deal, tying him to the club until 2026. He had previously made 3 appearances for Lyon’s senior team, and also managed a successful loan spell at Le Havre where he scored 19 goals over the course of the 2017/18 Ligue 2 campaign.

Mateta has played 28 Premier League games with the Eagles, but he only started in six of those. This season, the Châteauroux youth product has only scored four times. Mateta is reportedly wishing to kickstart his career back elsewhere, and a loan move is is said to be the most plausible option for the forward. The outlet adds that a concrete offer has come in from an Italian club.
