L’Équipe report this morning that Lens midfielder Jean Onana is set to leave for Beşiktaş, with the Cameroon international leaving the Sang et Or just one year after initially arriving from Bordeaux.
Onana becomes the second Lens midfielder to leave the club this week, after captain Séko Fofana’s departure to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr.
The 23-year-old made 21 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, as the team pushed eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain all the way for the title. Manager Franck Haise was considering deploying him as a central defender so as to increase his playing time – however, Onana himself has dismissed this option. His presence would have also allowed for more depth in midfield, with the team having notably brought in Stijn Spierings and Andy Diouf this summer.
The Artois side will receive a €5.3m transfer fee from the Turkish club, L’Équipe add, with the midfielder heading to Austria today to join his new team at their pre-season training camp and undergo his medical.
