Having been without a club since his dismissal from Auxerre in the early stages of last season, Jean-Marc Furlan is set for a return to management, with Ouest-France indicating that the 65-year-old will take charge of Caen.

The Normans will hope that Furlan can pull off a sixth promotion to the top flight – having already achieved the feat with Troyes, Brest and Auxerre – with the club having last been in Ligue 1 during the 2018/19 season.

Former Angers coach Stéphane Moulin left the club at the end of last season after two seasons. Although soon-to-be former Toulouse manager Philippe Montanier was also considered as a potential candidate to succeed Moulin, the Caen upper management appear to have opted for the first option they met with in Furlan.

The former defender had been sacked by Auxerre back in October after showing the middle finger to the opposition fans. He is expected to be revealed to the press by the Normandy outfit later this week, as contract negotiations reach the closing stages.
