Swansea City midfielder Jay Fulton has revealed that his side will need to eradicate mistakes from their game in order to climb the Championship standings.

Since securing a victory over arch-rivals Cardiff City in October, the Jacks have not managed to make significant progress in the second-tier as they have only picked up four points from their last five league games.

Whereas Swansea did claim a clean-sheet in their clash with Huddersfield Town last month, their defensive displays against Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic left a lot to be desired as they conceded twice in both of these fixtures.

Currently eighth in the league standings, the Jacks know that they will bolster their chances of securing a play-off place in the New Year if they embark on a winning run.

Set to take on Norwich City this weekend, it will be interesting to see how Swansea will fare in this fixture following the recent break for the start of the World Cup.

Ahead of this fixture, Fulton has admitted that he believes his side should be residing in a higher position in the table and has suggested that the club needs to work on eradicating errors.

Speaking to Swansea’s official website, the midfielder said: “I am really enjoying my football and the way we are playing.

“Some people may have wondered if I could come into the team and play this style, but I knew I could.

“I just needed to get to the levels I know I can reach.

“It has been going well, although I think we should be higher in the table and we have let too many points slip.

“If we keep going as we are, cut out those mistakes and be a bit more ruthless in front of goal then I am sure we can get up there.”

The Verdict

Fulton makes a valid point as Swansea really should have picked up more points than they have managed to accumulate this season.

In their showdown with Birmingham, the Jacks failed to see out the game as Troy Deeney scored a late equaliser at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Meanwhile, in their most recent clash with Huddersfield, Swansea failed to convert any of the 16 shots that they attempted.

By improving at both ends of the pitch, Russell Martin’s side could potentially end up sustaining a push for a top-six finish.
