The 27-year-old has just spent the international window with Belgium, with Roberto Martinez calling him up for the games against The Netherlands and Wales, despite being a free agent.

Denayer has been without a club since leaving Lyon in the summer and he has not been short of suitors, but he has decided to move to the Middle East instead of continuing his career in Europe as expected.

He has now flown to Dubai where he has agreed terms with Shabab Al Ahli - managed by former Monaco coach Leandro Jardim.

The Belgian, who has previously spent time in England with and Sunderland, had interest from the likes of West Ham, Leicester and Bournemouth, but it was who held extensive talks.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage even spoke of his liking for the player, admitting "I know him very well. You are talking about a centre-back that I know very well, I played against him in the Champions League.

"We are talking about a player who has played in the Champions League and for his national team. Let's see what can happen. I have a good opinion about him. I played two times against him in the Champions League when I was at Benfica."
