Jason Cundy thinks striker who’s a “little bit raw” would be a great fit for Chelsea

Former Blue Jason Cundy believes Victor Osimhen would be a great fit for Chelsea were the Blues to sign him this summer.

Chelsea are once again set for a busy summer and could look to fund their business by selling seven or eight players.

The Blues face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Cundy praises Osimhen

A striker is the number one priority for Chelsea, and the Blues have paid the price for not signing an alternative to Nicolas Jackson both last summer and in January.

Chelsea pursued Osimhen for most of last summer, but were unable to agree a deal with the 26-year-old and he ended up joining Galatasaray on a season long loan.

John Obi Mikel has claimed Chelsea just need to make a phone call to complete a deal for Osimhen, and Cundy has now had his say on the Nigerian.

“He’s a little bit raw, he’s a little bit unorthodox and I like the fact that he’ll put himself about,” he told talkSPORT.

“I don’t know if you remember it but Newcastle away. It was the early part of the game, it’s a brilliant cross that came in off the left-hand side.

“The ball came across the six-yard box and I’m looking at Jackson and he’s on his heels. I want someone that’s going to throw himself at it.

“He’s (Osimhen) the type of guy that will throw himself at balls he’s not favoured to win.”

Osimhen has had a brilliant season in Turkey scoring 36 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions as Galatasaray completed a league and cup double.

Delap and Sesko amongst Chelsea targets

Whilst a move for Osimhen seems unlikely unless he decides to drop his salary demands, the Blues do have alternative targets.

Chelsea have held long term interest in Liam Delap, who’s available for £30m following Ipswich’s relegation, but the Blues are thought to be behind Manchester United in the race.

Benjamin Sesko is another target, and the 21-year-old has a release clause of €80m in his current RB Leipzig contract.

Chelsea ideally would like to get a striker in before the Club World Cup next month, so the next few weeks could be interesting.
