Jason Cundy has shared his thoughts on Joao Felix and believes the Portugal international “flatters to deceive at times.”

Felix arrived at Chelsea this summer in a deal worth £44.5m from Atletico Madrid, having previously spent time on loan at Stamford Bridge during the 2022/2023 campaign.

The 24-year-old has had a difficult few years and despite his talent has struggled to really push on since leaving Benfica for Atletico in a big money move in 2019.

Cundy thinks Felix flatters to deceive

The move to Chelsea is an opportunity for Felix to get get his career back on track and show how good a player he is, with former Blue Pat Nevin admitting he’s a big fan of the attacker.

Chelsea’s squad is full of talent especially in the attacking areas and Felix has found minutes hard to come by, with the attacker yet to start a Premier League game.

He’s played just 117 minutes in the league with the bulk of his minutes coming in the cup competitions, where Maresca has heavily rotated his team.

Felix scored twice in the recent Conference League win against Panathinaikos, whilst he also scored on his debut in the 6-2 win against Wolves.

The Portuguese is very much part of the “B” team, and started on Wednesday night against Newcastle as Chelsea crashed out of the Carabao Cup.

The issue Felix has is he’s competing with Cole Palmer for that number ten role, although Maresca hinted the pair could soon play together.

Cundy has been speaking about the Portuguese and believes he hasn’t offered enough when given opportunities to do so.

“He’s left wanting a little bit. He kind of flatters to deceive at times,” he told talkSPORT.

“The problem that Felix has got he is one of those players who’s in-between. He’s not in the A-team. He’s in the B-team, but he’s in that mid area.”

It’s fair to say Felix has been disappointing so far, although it seems he was signed to be a squad player, but everyone associated with the club will hope he improves and can make a positive impact on the season.
