The Leeds United midfielder was on hand towards the end of their visit, with plenty of shocked and happy faces as he walked into the first team changing room. The group of youngsters were taking part in an exclusive stadium tour, learning all about the history of Leeds United, before having the opportunity to speak with a current player and have some photos taken.

Young children from a number of local schools were in attendance through their relationship with the club’s official charity partner for the 2023/24 season, with many of them unlikely to be offered opportunities like this. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their experience, and each of them got the chance to ask Shackleton a question during their very own press conference in the media suite.

Speaking during the visit, Jamie Shackleton said: “When I walked in and saw all their smiles and a few shocked faces, I’m sure it made some of their days and it made my day as well. It means a lot that I can come down and help and see firsthand how much they’d enjoyed it and how amazed they were walking around the stadium and seeing all of the things that not everyone else gets to see, I’m honestly just happy to be a part of what I’m sure was a special day for them.”

Megan Phillips from Leeds Children’s Charity added: “As a charity we’re dedicated to brightening the lives of young people that live in Leeds, people who have come from difficult and disadvantaged backgrounds and we work with them by offering them respite and breaks to Lineham Farm to help create happy memories that last a lifetime.

“Today has been absolutely brilliant, the young people can only usually dream of experiences like this so to make it a reality for them is really great and something I’m sure they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.”

Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm is dedicated to enhancing the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children in our city, offering them the chance to take a break from their difficult, and sometimes abusive, home lives. The breaks they offer at Lineham Farm are filled with adventure, fun and learning, all in a safe and happy environment.

Together with our official charity partner for the 2023/24 season, the club have delivered several special visits and activities at Lineham Farm, Elland Road and Thorp Arch, helping to raise money and awareness to support the inspiring work the charity do in providing opportunities for young children.
