Chelsea have completed the signing of Jamie Gittens in a deal worth £55million, including add-ons.
The highly rated 20-year-old joins from Borussia Dortmund on a seven-year deal.
Chelsea had hoped to sign Gittens before the Club World Cup, and agreed personal terms with the player last month, but were unable to reach an agreement on fee with Dortmund before the pre-tournament transfer deadline.
Unlike Joao Pedro, who has joined from Brighton in a deal worth up to £60m, Gittens will be unable to make his debut for Chelsea at the Club World Cup, having already featured in the tournament for his former club.
The Reading-born English winger joins Chelsea after spending four years in Germany.
Gittens enjoyed his most fruitful season in his senior career so far last season, scoring eight goals in the Bundesliga for Dortmund this season, as well as four in the Champions League.
Gittens has represented England at several youth levels, including the Under-21s, but is yet to make his senior England debut.
Gittens spent time in Chelsea’s academy as a youngster but spent the bulk of his youth career with Reading.
