Former Red Jamie Carragher believes that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard should be Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield.
Gerrard retired from playing football in 2017, which saw him begin a career in management. After a brief stint in charge of Liverpool’s Under 18’s, Gerrard became Rangers’ manager in 2018.
Klopp’s contract at Liverpool expires in 2024, and Gerrard’s contract expires at Rangers in 2024.
Carragher has said on his own Instagram channel that Gerrard should be given the opportunity to manage the Reds when Klopp departs.
“Just give it to Gerrard,” Carragher said, when asked who should take over from Klopp.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Gerrard has done reasonably well at Rangers. This can be backed up by the fact that the Rangers boss has accumulated 68 wins from 114 matches in all competitions whilst he has been in charge of the club.
Gerrard has got Rangers competing against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season. Th club sit in second-place, but are 13 points short of their biggest rivals.
The aforementioned statistics do show that Gerrard has done a decent job for the Scottish club thus far.
If he continues to improve on what he has achieved in his short time at the club, then he might just be considered for the Liverpool job once Klopp leaves.
As Gerrard is a former player, he understands the club, meaning it should be a smooth transition.
