Jamie Carragher loses Champions League bet to Micah Richards as Real Madrid beat Liverpool

Jamie Carragher’s comments about Real Madrid came back to bite him as the Spanish giants won the 2021-22 Champions League at Liverpool’s expense.
The Anfield legend confidently predicted that Madrid had “absolutely no chance” of winning Europe’s most prestigious club competition when the Round of 16 took place in February and March.
In fact, Carragher was so certain that he stuck a bet on with Richards, who believed Madrid were more than capable of going all the way.
Carragher said that only four teams – Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich – would end the season as champions of Europe.
“There’s nobody else who can win the competition, it’s only those four teams,” Carragher said. “Nobody else in this competition is good enough.”
Asked if he agreed, Richards said: “I’m not sure. I think we need to show a bit more respect to Real Madrid. They’ve won it 13 times, have a great manager in [Carlo] Ancelotti, they’ve been there and done it, [Karim] Benzema’s in the form of his life, Vinicius Jr as well, so don’t discount Real Madrid just yet.”
Carragher immediately responded: “I’ll have you a bet that they don’t win it.”
Richards accepted the bet and was seen on CBS Sports collecting his winning from his colleague after Saturday’s final at the Stade de France.
Carragher was forced to cough up a cool €260 after his prediction and bet backfired.
After making sure all the notes were there, Richards said: “Making it rain, baby!”
Oh, Carra! You should have known better than to write off Real Madrid.
After defeating PSG in the Round of 16, Real Madrid went on to eliminate Chelsea and Man City in the quarter and semi-finals, respectively.
They then lifted the European Cup for a record-breaking 14th time thanks to a 1-0 victory over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in Paris.
Vinicius scored the only goal of the game on the hour-mark, finishing Fede Valverde’s cross at the back post.
However, the game’s standout performer was goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who pulled off a string of excellent saves to cement his status as a Real Madrid legend.
