With only four games left to play in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Amy James-Turner is targeting a strong finish to the campaign.

Brighton & Hove Albion are the visitors in our penultimate game at Brisbane Road on Sunday afternoon (2pm UK) and a top four finish is very much on the cards, currently sat sixth in the table and six points behind Manchester United, having played one game less.

Although we are set to compete in our first-ever Adobe Women’s FA Cup final next month against United at Wembley Stadium, the 32-year-old reiterated the target remains on the next game, starting with the Seagulls at the weekend.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY ahead of the game, Amy said: “We really want to finish strong in the league. We know we have some really important games coming up and we want to take as many points from these remaining games as possible.

“We had a tough weekend at Manchester United but, I think, overall, we were happy with that performance. It’s a real difficult place to go… we had a brilliant reaction to completely swing momentum in that game and, in the end, I think we were gutted not to get the three points. However, to say that, just shows how far we have come this season to say we are disappointed with not beating United away.

When asked about what we could expect this weekend, she added: “They [Brighton] are a difficult team to play against… we know they like to build, like to play and we also know they are quite physical.

“We are just trying to focus as much as we can on us, taking the game to them. We want to press high, win the ball back higher up the pitch and that’s certainly something we are taking into this game.”

We have recorded three clean sheets in the WSL this season, with two of those coming in our last three games, and Amy reflected on the improved defensive displays over the last few months.

“We are looking more organised at the back,” the defender said. “We are creating good relationships with each other and that is important if we want to do well in this league. Clean sheets are really important and puts in good foundations to go on and win games, it’s something we have worked really hard on and we will continue to keep doing that.”
