Everton beat Burnley 3-1 at Goodison Park on Monday Night.

After a drab first half, it was the away side that took the lead through Ben Mee.

But three goals in six minutes from the hosts - scored by Michael Keane, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray - saw them take all three points.

The game featured a few brutal tackles from Burnley on Everton's players.

The worst of which arguably came from James Tarkowski in the second half.

Richarlison had the ball on the touchline when the Burnley defender completely wiped him out with a full-blooded challenge.

Tarkowski got the ball but he went through the Brazilian in the process.

Referee Martin Atkinson didn't even give a foul. Watch the challenge below:

There has been a lot of debate about the challenge in the aftermath of the game.

Gary Neville was not a fan at all, accusing Tarkowski of 'doing' Richarlison.

He said on Monday Night Football: "This challenge doesn't have a place in football. If it had been given a red, you don't think Burnley could have complained.

"It's reckless, he knows he's going to do him, he knows his follow through is going to, or could hurt him. It does endanger him. That challenge cannot be encouraged by not being booked."

Many fans were in agreement with Neville.

But others thought the challenge was completely fair and the right decision was made.

It's an interesting debate.

Premier League referees have been told to be a bit more lenient this season to allow games to flow.

But, while they were criticised for blowing their whistle too much last campaign, it now seems they are being criticised for letting too much go.

Whether Tarkowski's challenge brings about a change in their thinking remains to be seen.
