Liverpool will be looking for potential rather than proven talent this summer transfer window as they aim to bolster their squad.

The Reds certainly need to add to their side in the coming off-period with them struggling with a lack of depth this year, particularly after several injuries in defence.

Indeed, many are hoping that the Reds are going to bolster the squad with some good signings in the summer but it looks as though the club will be aiming to try and box clever rather than go for blockbuster arrivals.

Writing for The Athletic, James Pearce explained:

“Liverpool will look for value and invest in exciting potential this summer rather than the finished article. The pot will be topped up with the proceeds from player sales.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Perhaps this was to be expected.

Even in normal conditions, the Reds have normally gone for players they can develop and turn into world-beaters rather than making the big moves – Alisson and Virgil van Dijk aside.

It’s an approach that has worked for the Reds a great deal and in the current financial climate, it’s no shock to hear this is what the Reds are planning.

Of course, there’s a risk that such moves do not yield the level of player needed, however, and so that will need to be negated as much as possible with good scouting and player knowledge.
