Liverpool will not be making a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly or Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, according to James Pearce from The Athletic.

The Reds have been linked with both Koulibaly and Carlos in recent times.

However, Pearce has stated that due to financial constraints, Liverpool will not be making a move for either defender.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

This comes as no real shock to us. Pearce has already stated in the past that the coronavirus has impacted Liverpool financially.

Koulibaly has a market value of €56 million and Carlos possesses a market value of €50 million. Both players will cost a bit in terms of a transfer fee if their current market values are anything to go by.

We would have loved to have seen Koulibaly at Anfield. Koulibaly finished the recent Champions League season with an overall player rating of 7.19.

He was performing in Europe’s elite competition, which highlights that he has ability.

However, Koulibaly is 29 years of age. He is about to enter the backend of his career. Perhaps it is a blessing that Liverpool can’t afford the centre-back, as they would not get too many years out of him.

We have not seen as much of Carlos, but he is clearly a decent player if he has a current market value of €50 million. However, is 27 years old. He is also not too far off the backend of his career.

Liverpool would be better off investing that money in a younger player who will be around much longer. The financial constraints have potentially stopped Liverpool from making a mistake.

However, we are unsure if Liverpool genuinely wanted Koulibaly or Carlos in the first place.
