James Pearce has revealed via The Athletic that Liverpool are hoping to bring Virgil van Dijk back into the playing fold this very week for a brief appearance against Hertha Berlin in a friendly on Thursday.
The Dutchman has had a tough lay-off period since his ACL injury last October in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park and, naturally, we missed having his presence and class in the middle of defence.
We did well to get a Champions League spot out of last season, though, and now hopefully success can return once more this year with him back at the heart of the backline.
Of course, we still need to be careful with him but it looks as though he’s now very close to being back in the side where he belongs:
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Van Dijk is still the best defender in the world and it’s going to be great watching him remind a few mindless rival supporters of that fact this season.
The moment he is back on the pitch Thursday will be a superb one, and we can’t wait to see it play out.
