James Maddison is expected to miss the majority of the 2025/26 season following his injury picked up in the friendly game against Newcastle United.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder came on in the 75th minute of Spurs' 1-1 draw with Newcastle Untied in Seoul, which was Son Heung-min's farewell to the club. However, Maddison was stretchered off just ten minutes later with what looked like a serious injury.

That has now been confirmed by BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel who states that Maddison will undergo surgery to repair an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Maddison was one of Spurs' best players last season, scoring 12 times and assisting nine more in 45 games for the North London club.

New Spurs boss Thomas Frank may look to dip into the transfer market if he wishes to find a replacement for the 28-year-old.
