Next up for Celtic is the challenge of Dundee tomorrow night in the SPFL as the games keep on coming with the Hoops now in the midst of a weekend-midweek-weekend patch of games.
The last batch saw the Celts play Aberdeen, Atalanta and Motherwell, and now, with the Fir Park game barely out of the way, Dundee, Aberdeen and Leipzig await in quick succession.
It’s a strong squad that can cope with such a hectic schedule, and winger, James Forrest and his team-mates have been up to the challenge.
He said ahead of the Dundee game: “It’s good for the manager and players to use the squad.
“Maybe for the first four games of the season we had a week to every game, but now the games are coming thick and fast
‘And at a big club like Celtic, you are in every competition, and all the boys are looking forward to it.’
“I’ve been really enjoying my football, I had a good pre-season and I’m enjoying helping the team when I’ve been involved.
“It shows the confidence we have in the squad and you can make two or three changes with different personnel for different games as well, and over the next couple of months that’s definitely going to help us.”
It also means there is plenty of competition for places, with the wing berths on either flank being no different.
Forrest said: “I’ve been at Celtic for years now, and that’s always been the case.
“I think especially in the forward positions it’s good to have more options and freshen it up at times as well.
“It keeps everyone on their toes and you know that when you get a chance you need to perform and help the team, and so far this season all of the boys have been doing that.”
Another long-serving Celt who knew what it was like to fight for his place was Bobby Lennox, and the Lisbon Lion sits at the top of the club’s medal charts with no fewer than 25 top-class winner’s medals.
Forrest, though, sits just one behind, but it’s not something that is at the forefront of his mind at the immediate time.
He said: “I’ve said before over the last couple of years that when you get stats and milestones, people tell you after they’ve been done, it’s really good.
“It just shows that you’ve been working hard over the years – but we’re only in October just now so it’s hard to think about that.
“But it’s there and I just want to keep going game by game just now and keep helping the team as much as I can, and hopefully if we keep performing as a team, then the accolades come.”
