MIAMI, Florida – The last stretch of the season can be one that exacts a toll on some players who are ready to take a break and start planning for next year. This is not the case for Manchester City and Jamaica star Khadija Shaw, who has been performing at the highest level from day one.

The Citizens are now sitting in fourth position in the 2022-23 English Women’s Super League table with 44 points after being in the battle for the top places the entire season. Currently out of European positions, the team face a crucial stretch of the season in the next few weeks in hopes of mounting a winning streak to rise back up the standings.

A factor that has been key in every game for Manchester City this season is the determination and effectiveness of Shaw in front of goal. Alongside the rest of the squad, the 26-year-old has proved that she is one of the generational talents in women’s football.

With 18 goals and six assists so far in the WSL, Shaw is in the top three in scoring for the season, competing for the Golden Boot title. Her hard work has been noticed not only by fans, but by experts of women’s football in England.

This Friday, Shaw was one of eight players nominated for the WSL Player of the Season. Her attacking skills and intelligence reading the game has placed her among one of the best players of the year. However, not only in England are they praising ‘Bunny’s’ talents.

On May 5, the Concacaf Awards took place, praising the talent of the region's players. Shaw was nominated for Women’s Player of the Year and won it for the first time.

Her leadership on and off the pitch with the Jamaica Women’s National team, serving as one of the most influential players in the qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the Reggae Girlz, has been recognized not only by her teammates, but by the confederation and the world.

This achievement also came with some history, as she became the first Caribbean woman to receive this honor. She has become one of the most influential players in the women’s game, dating back to when she helped her country qualify for their first ever Women’s World Cup at France 2019.

Manchester City will next face Manchester United in the WSL in a derby. With no room for mistakes and everything wide open, Shaw will lead her team into the final matches to try to get back into European positions, hoping to have the chance to keep writing women’s football history.
