Following Joelinton’s club-record £40m move from Hoffenheim, there were high expectations for the uncapped Brazilian to make an instant impact at Newcastle.
However, the 23-year-old has netted just once in his first 10 Premier League starts, leading many Magpies supporters to believe he is at fault for their goal tally that is second-worst in the Premier League.
When asked about Newcastle’s goalscoring woes, captain Jamaal Lascelles refused to lay the blame on the former Bundesliga star.
“I think we’re finally starting to get it, we’re starting to create more chances and we’re finally starting to get there.
“But goals don’t just come from one striker, everyone can chip in with them, so we aren’t putting too much pressure on one person because he needs the service, he needs people supporting him, he needs people to allow him to get into good positions and runners off him.
“It’s a team thing. It’s not just the attackers, it’s a team thing. We are not pointing fingers at anybody.”
Newcastle, who have only six league goals to their name thus far, will attempt to distance themselves from the bottom three when they travel to West Ham this Saturday.
