Jair Ventura’s move was made official after Osmar Loss was fired following Corinthians’ 2-1 loss to Ceará.
The defending Brasileirão champions are currently in eighth place, just seven points above the relegation zone and 11 points behind Flamengo for a top-four spot.
Corinthians were eliminated in the Copa Libertadores round-of-16 last week, as they were bounced by Chile’s Colo Colo.
Ventura is back in management after he was relieved of his duties at Santos in July following a 0-0 draw against Chapecoense that threatened Piexe with relegation.
The coach began his career at Botafogo, where he managed to reach the quarterfinals of the Libertadores 2017 even with a limited squad.
He will immediately be thrown into the fire, as the Paulista derby at Palmeiras takes place this weekend. Corinthians will then travel to Flamengo for the first leg of the Copa do Brasil semi-finals on Wednesday.
