A pivotal summer is ahead for Manchester United in terms of more than just prospective new signings.

A lot of the players already on the club’s books will be seeking pastures anew while there are decisions to be made on the future of others.

Jadon Sancho looked like a cut-and-dried case of the former but his performances on loan at Borussia Dortmund after joining in January have shifted him to the latter.

For now, Sancho is set to return to Old Trafford after a fruitful spell in Germany where he started the Champions League final and rediscovered his love for the game.

Sancho has left a heartfelt message to Dortmund fans for their support during his loan spell.

As the door for a return has been left potentially ajar, he thanked the fans for the six months and said he was “grateful” to be a part of such an “amazing group of players”.

He said: “We win together we lose together, these moments only make us stronger! I’m so grateful to be apart of such an amazing group of players.

“I want to congratulate Real Madrid on winning the Champions League. We came up short on the night, but we should be super proud of ourselves. We are a family and these moments won’t break us! Thank you to everybody who came out to support us on such a special day!

“I want to thank everyone involved at such an amazing club. I can’t thank you enough for welcoming me back the way you all have during these last 6 months.

“Thank you to Edin Terzić, Sebastian Kehl and Hans-Joachim Watzke for believing in me and bringing me back.

“Finally a special thank you to the BVB fans. Your support is amazing and I’m forever thankful for you all!”

Recent reports have indicated that Sancho is willing to return to United and resume his career at Old Trafford provided Erik ten Hag is not at the helm.

The manager’s job is still under uncertainty as INEOS take their time on their season review.

However, whichever direction this saga takes, United can at least take solace from the fact that Sancho, who was effectively written off as an asset after his falling out with Ten Hag, is at least back to being a serviceable player, be it at United or somewhere else.
