Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho has revealed how Christian Pulisic inspired him to leave England for Germany.
Sancho swapped Manchester City for Dortmund in 2017 – a decision that was initially met with caution but quickly validated by the London-born teenager.
44 Bundesliga appearances and eight England caps later, he insists Pulisic set the standard for young talent abroad.
“The Manchester move from London was okay,” Sancho explained at a Head & Shoulders event. “I was still in England and I knew I could go back home.
“It was a bit further away but I could see the family every three weeks or so. Settling there was not a problem.”
“Dortmund was different. That was a big change, but they have a good history of playing young players and I believed what they said.
“Christian Pulisic was there – he was 18 at the time and was starting every week. I looked at him and felt I could compete with him.”
And compete he did. Sancho became a regular under Lucien Favre and kept Pulisic on the bench, before his €55m move to Chelsea.
