Suddenly, there is renewed hope for Manchester United to offload Jadon Sancho.
Sancho is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, with both player and club agreeing that a separation would be best for all parties.
While the winger is still at United weeks before the transfer deadline, murmurs suggest an exit is imminent. Some top clubs are keen to sign him, but the concern for some of them has always been whether he would agree to join them.
United’s number 25 has been described as being selective when it comes to his next destination; he will not just sign for any club.
AS Roma will be hoping they are among the few he is willing to consider. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report that Roma’s manager is a big admirer of Sancho.
For Gian Piero Gasperini, the wantaway United star tops Roma’s transfer wishlist. However, despite that admiration, Roma were reportedly unwilling to make a move without clarity on Sancho’s willingness to join.
Roma may now have received a hint that Sancho would welcome a move to the Stadio Olimpico.
According to The Times, the Giallorossi have now made a formal approach for the former Borussia Dortmund winger.
“Roma have made a bid to sign Jadon Sancho on a season-long loan from Manchester United,” the report reveals. “United would prefer to sell Sancho permanently, as he has one year left on his contract.”
Although the offer may not be what United were hoping for, Roma’s move is a boost to INEOS’s efforts to offload Sancho.
It should bring both clubs to the negotiating table, and a compromise may thereafter be reached. Roma’s bold step could also spook other suitors.
Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, three other European heavyweights linked, may now be nudged into action. We could also see them respond with offers, fearing they might miss out on a talent like Sancho.
Unfortunately, things did not work out for the winger at the Theatre of Dreams, but still, at 25, Sancho has plenty of time to prove his worth.
