Jack Rodwell is back in the Premier League after signing a deal with Sheffield United.
The ex-Everton, Manchester City and Sunderland midfielder had been out of contract since leaving Blackburn Rovers in the summer.
After a move to Roma failed to materialise in October, he headed back to England and trained with the Blades for much of December.
The club have now given him a contract until the end of the season.
“Jack has been with us for a couple of weeks or so now and he’s been excellent around the place,” said manager Chris Wilder.
“He offers us versatility and experience in a number of key positions and adds further depth to the group which is important at this stage of the season.”
Rodwell could make his Sheffield United debut against Fylde in the FA Cup on Sunday.
