Jack Harrison has admitted he was forced to delete his Twitter account as a result of the online abuse levelled at him in his early days at Leeds.

The Manchester City midfielder is in his second season on loan at Elland Road, and is enjoying a rich run of form with Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

Harrison has started in each of Leeds’ last 63 games.

However, it wasn’t also so enjoyable in Yorkshire for the 23-year-old, and he has revealed how harshly the local faithful treated him when he first arrived.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Harrison said: “The most difficult was the reaction from some of the fans. Being in New York and everywhere I’d been, I’d always had positive feedback,” he said.

“Even if I’d played badly it was always encouraging. I grew up in the US as well, so all my team-mates had been encouraging.

“That’s the US mentality and their way of coping with sports, but once I came here, I was on social media, some of the things you see it’s just ruthless.

“I had to delete Twitter. Too many people coming at me. That was something new for me I had to adjust to.

“Trying to build the mental strength to work a way through that. It was tough, but it only makes you stronger as a player.”

Harrison moved to Massachussetts from England as a teenager and was signed by New York City FC in the 2016 MLS Superdraft.

He spent two years in the Big Apple before moving to Manchester City, but has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Citizens.
