Jack Grealish told Jimmy Bullard he is ‘in a world of pain’ via text message after his four-day Treble celebration, with the Manchester City star set to team up with the England squad on Wednesday.
Grealish played a key role in City’s Treble triumph before celebrating wildly with his teammates for the past few days, in Istanbul after the Champions League win, in Ibiza, and then Manchester for the open-top bus parade.
Pictures and videos of Grealish enjoying himself have been plastered all over social media since and Bullard revealed he exchanged messages with the England international before going on talkSPORT.
Speaking on air, Bullard said: “I text earlier saying, ‘Jack, I’m coming on talkSPORT. I love you. How are your three trophies going?’
“And he text back, ‘Wow, I’m in a world of pain!’ What a legend. Brilliant. I love the boy, I think he’s unbelievable for English football.”
Grealish will join John Stones, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips in reporting for England duty this evening ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta on Friday and North Macedonia on Monday.
It’s thought the five City players will be eased into training with a view to having them available for the North Macedonia clash, though they may be on the bench for Malta if they can prove their fitness.
Grealish’s antics will inevitably result in some pundits suggesting he should have toned things down with England games on the horizon, but Bullard is keen for Grealish to party hard after his excellent season.
He added: “I hope people don’t put Jack on a pedestal too much and then chop the legs off of him. Let Jack be Jack. Let him celebrates when he wants to celebrate.
“I just think, ‘Do what you want, Jack, mate. You’re a young kid as well.’
“You’ve got to realise how young they are. These are young football players that have got the world at their feet.”
