Manchester City attacker Jack Grealish was happy his team showed character in their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid last night.
The two European giants clashed in the semi-final of the Champions League. City came back from one goal down to draw the game.
Man City dominated possession in the opening proceedings, but Madrid soon reminded everyone of their pedigree in Europe.
Eduardo Camavinga carried the ball into City’s half before setting up Vinicius Junior, who rifled a shot beyond international teammate Ederson Moraes after 36 minutes.
City regrouped and netted a fine equaliser in the 62nd minute. Kevin De Bruyne arrowed a vicious shot past Thibaut Courtois to level the game. Grealish was happy with the draw.
He said (via Man City’s official website): “It shows our character to go a goal down. It is always difficult, especially at a place like this, and it was a fair result in the end.
“They had their chances. We had a few as well. I really enjoyed it, man. I loved it. You can have nerves. These are the nights you play football for.
“These are the nights you dream of playing in. It is like a dream come true.”
City played Real Madrid in the semi-final last year, and that experience was vital going to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The draw in Spain keeps the match hanging in the balance ahead of the second leg in Manchester next week.
Man City are now favourites to progress, but they would be well advised not to underestimate Madrid.
