According to the Athletic (h/t Sun), Chelsea youngster, Ethan Ampadu has opened up on his frustrating loan at RB Leipzig in Germany.
The 19-year-old has found opportunities hard to come by at the Red Bull Arena and has made just seven appearances all season.
The centre-back is keen to return to Stamford Bridge and force his way into Frank Lampard’s plans. A centre-back who can also do a job in defensive midfield, he moved to the Bridge from Exeter City in 2017.
He showcased exactly what he is capable of in the Champions League tie away to Tottenham Hotspur. He ended the night with the most touches on the ball, completed the most passes, made the most interceptions, and had the highest pass accuracy of 95%.
Speaking on his situation, he made his frustrations clear.
“I’ve not played as many games as I’d have liked to but in the games, I’ve played in, I think I’ve done reasonably well.”
Although a frustrating experience, he believes that the lessons learned will help him later in his career.
He admitted that his experience had not gone as planned. In spite of that, he believes he has improved tactically and has also learned from playing for Julian Nagelsmann.
Chelsea are keen on Lille defender Gabriel, further questioning Ampadu’s future in North London.
Ampadu is keen to make the Wales squad for the Euros next summer and hopes he will get enough opportunities to make an impression. He is not averse to going out on another loan if it helps his cause.
Ampadu has shown that he has the ability to compete against the best. At 19, he still has a long way to go in his career. It wouldn’t be amiss to give the youngster opportunities next season and ease him into our setup.
The 19-year-old is keen to make it at Chelsea and is hopeful it will happen. He has so far made 12 appearances for the Blues, with the majority coming in cup competitions.
