Jérôme Onguéné describes his development at Salzburg, praises the Eintracht defence and reveals the reason for his shirt number.

Jérôme Onguéné on.. ...his first impressions: “I’m very happy to be here. I have a very good feeling, the lads in the dressing room are cool.” ...the period since his move from Stuttgart to Salzburg: “I’ve grown up in recent years and gained a lot of experience. I’ve also played in important games in the Europa League and Champions League. The Jérôme of Stuttgart can’t be compared with the Jérôme of today.”

...his qualities: “I’d class myself as an old-fashioned centre-back – strong in the challenge, a lot of physical presence but also good on the ball. At Salzburg I played with a similar intensity to here. I’ve already played in a back four and a back three, and I feel comfortable in both systems. I don’t mind whether I play in the middle or on the side.” ..competition for places: “Frankfurt have a strong defence, as we saw in the Europa League. The defence played their part in winning the title. It’s down to me to integrate as well as possible and contribute to our next successes.” ...his shirt number four: “I partly chose this shirt number because Sergio Ramos wears it. He’s a big idol for me. But I also chose four because it’s a traditional number for a centre-back. That was the main reason.” ...the city: “I’ve not yet had the opportunity to look around the city because the full focus has been on training. I’m also living in a hotel, so the only route I’ve walked so far is the one to the ProfiCamp.”
