Speaking to La Provence, Maupay spoke about his personality and the reputation he has earned for being a joker off the field. This continued following his reaction to Les Olympiens’ dramatic 3-2 late win against Lyon last weekend despite being down to ten men. The former Brentford taunted Les Gones in his interview after the match and posts on social media.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a positive start under Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille, scoring 1 goal in his first 3 appearances for the club. Commenting on his off field antic and personality, the Les Phocéens forward said, “Football remains a game, a pleasure. I’ve always had this teasing side on and off the pitch. I find it a shame that players hold back because everything is analyzed, commented on, criticized… I’ve decided to be myself.”
