Toney return helps Bees sting Forest in thriller

Scorers: Toney 19′, Mee 58′, Maupay 68′; Danilo 3′, Wood 65′

Ivan Toney’s long-awaited return to action helped Brentford edge out Nottingham Forest in a five-goal thriller.

The hosts fell behind early on when a botched clearance allowed Danilo to produce a stunning volley from the edge of the area.

Toney marked his comeback with a well-worked free kick which was driven low around the Forest wall to catch out Matt Turner at his far post.

Thomas Frank’s side continued to step things up after the interval as Ben Mee powered home a header from Mathias Jensen’s corner.

Chris Wood soon put the Tricky Trees back on a level footing with a flick-on header past Mark Flekken from a Callum Hudson-Odoi delivery.

But Neal Maupay tipped the balance by restoring the Bees’ lead inside just three minutes through a half-volley after bringing down Mads Roerslev’s cross.

Five-star Arsenal thrash sorry Palace

Scorers: Magalhães 11′, Henderson (OG) 37′, Trossard 69′, Martinelli 90+4′, 90+5′

Arsenal moved up to third in the Premier League after comprehensively ending a four-game winless run in all competitions against Crystal Palace.

Gabriel Magalhães opened the scoring for Mikel Arteta’s side early on by rising to meet Declan Rice’s in-swinging corner from the left.

An identical set piece saw the Brazilian help double the Gunners’ lead with his far-post header from Buyako Saka’s delivery turned home by Dean Henderson.

The visitors’ best attempt for an early second-half reducer saw Eberechi Eze force a good save from David Raya with a long-range attempt.

But the north Londoners further cemented their dominance when Leandro Trossard ended a 10-game goal drought by sweeping home a third at a counterattack.

Deep in added time, substitute Gabriel Martinelli rolled home a fourth after being played in by Eddie Nketiah before adding a second just a minute later.

Arteta’s side now sit two points behind leaders Liverpool, who face Bournemouth on Sunday.
