Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli are reportedly prepared to part with €40m to beat Manchester United to the signing of Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
United secured the services of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna earlier in the summer but there is a belief that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are not done and would ideally like to add another goalscorer to the ranks, especially after Rasmus Hojlund sustained an injury during pre-season.
An option that has strongly emerged is Toney – a player United have been linked to on multiple occasions in the past. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that there is still a chance the Englishman will be sold, with slightly more than two weeks left until the close of the window.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were exploring a loan deal for Toney that would include an option to buy.
It’s believed that Thomas Frank’s side have placed a £60million valuation on him after he expressed that he has no desire or willingness to sign a new deal to extend his stay with the Bees.
It was mentioned that Toney was attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League and it seems that Al Ahli in particular are preparing to step up their pursuit of the 28-year-old.
Fichajes reveal about the United target, “Toney has sparked the interest of Al Ahli, a team that is willing to make an offer that could change the course of his career.”
“Al Ahli, in their ambition to continue to strengthen their squad with internationally renowned players, are reportedly willing to put a figure close to 40 million euros on the table to secure Toney’s services. This offer, although lower than his estimated market value, reflects the Saudi club’s desire to bring a striker of his calibre into their ranks.”
“Moreover, the financial appeal is not limited to the transfer alone: the English player would also receive a tempting salary of 18 million euros per season, according to sources close to the club.”
“For Toney, the chance to play in Saudi Arabia could be an exciting challenge, especially considering the financial offer and the possibility of becoming one of the top stars of the Saudi league.”
The news outlet adds that negotiations between Brentford and Al Ahli “could progress in the coming days” with both teams “looking to reach an agreement” that benefits all parties.
“Anticipation is growing” around Toney as the clock winds down.
Toney signed for Brentford in 2018 and has scored 72 goals for the club – playing a crucial role in their promotion from the Championship and their continued stay in the Premier League.
He plundered an impressive 21 goals in 2022/23, while last term his progress was hampered by an eight-month suspension for gambling breaches.
