He fondly recalled his years in Catalonia, stating that the memories and experiences he shared with the club are something he will always treasure.

“I was there for six seasons, and I have a great affection for Barcelona and the Catalans; we went through a lot together,” Rakitic remarked, as quoted by SPORT.

However, he was quick to underline his devotion to Sevilla, where he feels an immense gratitude. “What Sevilla has given me… That does not exist,” he added, highlighting the special bond he now has with his current club.

During his time at Barcelona, Rakitic had the privilege of playing alongside Xavi, whom he holds in high regard.

Reflecting on the legendary midfielder’s coaching journey, Rakitic expressed regret that Xavi had not been given the right circumstances to succeed sooner.

“I was very sorry because Xavi was the perfect coach. He knows the club better than anyone and had a clear footballing philosophy,” Rakitic said.

He noted, however, that Xavi had to deal with tough circumstances, but his mental strength and unwavering belief in his methods were key to pushing through the challenges.

“It was not easy, he was in the most difficult moment, and he had to count on the youngsters.

“Thank goodness that there was a guy like Xavi, who had that mental strength. He never hesitated. I saw him for many years at Barça.”

In contrast, Rakitic also spoke warmly about his current Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick.

“Every day he is more Barça, and we are going to have a lot of fun with the coach,” Rakitic noted, adding that Flick’s approach is exciting for the squad.

He further praised young talent like Pedri, who is enjoying a spectacular season.

“Pedri is confident; his legs go their way, the passes come out, and he gets up and down.

“Barça needs a great Pedri, and I think he’s having an incredible season,” he said, highlighting the importance of the young midfielder to the team’s success.

On Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal

Rakitic also fondly remembered Dani Olmo, admiring his all-around abilities. “I’m a big fan of Dani. He’s very complete; he can score, assist, and is everywhere. When the ball burns for some, it goes to him.”

Rakitic’s compliments didn’t stop there, as he also acknowledged the brilliance of Lamine Yamal. He praised the teenager’s footballing intelligence, something rare at such a young age, stating,

“He has exceptional footballing intelligence, and that at his age is not easy. If he smiles, we all enjoy,” a testament to Yamal’s infectious spirit and talent.

Although Rakitic has moved on to a new chapter in his career, his deep connection with Barcelona, its players, and the club’s ethos still remain strong
