ITV ratings soared to a new record high for Euro 2025 this summer as England thrashed Wales, with over 4.6 million fans tuning in to the broadcast.
Women’s football is continuing to grow in popularity and it is no surprise that millions of fans have been tuning in to Euro 2025 in Switzerland this summer.
With England’s tournament on the line over the weekend, the whole nation looked to watch the Lionesses as they hoped to qualify for the quarter finals later this week.
After the game, ITV confirmed that 4.6 million devices were watching on as England thumped Wales 6-1 in their final group game.
The viewing figures broke all sorts of records and the match was by far the most watched game at this summer’s tournament.
It wasn’t just Euro 2025 figures that were broken during the broadcast, as the 4.6 million people tuning in at its peak was ITV’s highest single-time broadcast since the Britain’s Got Talent final in May.
Viewing stats didn’t drop much throughout the game as England dismantled Wales with an average of 4.2 million fans watching during the 90 minutes.
With England through to the quarter finals, the excitement surrounding the team is building and their first knockout game against Sweden could attract a huge audience.
Unfortunately for ITV, the Lionesses match against Sweden will be broadcast on the BBC.
ITV will be hoping that England can edge past Sweden in the quarter final, as the channel gets first choice for which semi final it wants to broadcast.
With both BBC and ITV broadcasting the Euro 2025 final, the viewing figures are likely to be highest in the semi final should England make it that far – with the final shared between channels.
If the Lionesses can beat Sweden on Thursday night then they will be faced with a tough semi final draw against Norway or Italy.
While England’s route to the final is difficult, the Lionesses are one of the favourites to win Euro 2025 and secure back to back European Championships.
Sarina Wiegman’s team are 1/1 to beat Sweden in the quarter finals according to the UK’s best betting sites, and just 4/1 to win Euro 2025.
