Even though we are just two weeks away from the end of the ongoing summer transfer window, Barcelona have not given up their hopes of signing Bernardo Silva.

The Manchester City superstar has emerged as the top target for Xavi Hernandez this summer, even though the club have roped in no less than six top-quality players in the month of July, including star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Xavi feels there is a weak spot in the Barcelona midfield and wants to provide Pedri with a reliable partner in the number eight position. That is where Silva comes into the fray.

Barcelona have been in negotiations with Manchester City for a while now. But the two parties are yet to reach an agreement, even though the Premier League giants are ready to sanction the sale of the Portuguese international.

However, according to Luis Rojo, Barcelona’s window to sign Silva has passed as Manchester City believe it is too late to offload the playmaker.

The report comes in the aftermath of earlier rumours that suggested Man City are increasing the asking price for Silva with each passing day, knowing they will have very little time to find a replacement.

It appears the English champions are now ready to block Silva’s exit, especially with just two weeks remaining until the transfer window slams to a shut. This should serve as a massive blow for Barcelona, who may have to contend themselves with Gavi and Frenkie de Jong as their only options in the interior midfield positions.

There are doubts over the future of de Jong, but the Dutchman is likely to continue at Camp Nou if Barça fail to secure the services of Bernardo Silva this summer.
