It’s time for Gio to take major risk to please Rangers fans

After yet another excellent display today by the rising star that is Alex Lowry, it appears the Auchenhowie graduate is becoming more and more ready to make a serious stake for the Rangers’ first team.

A fringe and developing player last season, Lowry found himself getting a few more opportunities than expected ‘thanks’ to Ianis Hagi’s untimely injury and the lack of a striker for the majority of the second half of the season.

And Rangers fans were delighted with what they saw.

This wasn’t a flash in the pan – every appearance from the 19-year old was impressive.

Sure, he lacked a little bit of meat, but the movement, awareness, passing and all-round maturity was bang on, and gave every indication he could be the new Academy star, the new Graduate.

The reality is Rangers might be looking at new players this summer, and may or may not make a second bid on Man City’s James McAtee, among others, but Lowry, with his potential, is one fans really want to see given a major chance now.

There is every chance he might sink. You know what? Tough! The only way to find out if a boy can be a man, can swim, is to throw him in and take the risk.

And there’s no reason Lowry can’t swim.

If he fails, he fails – that will be on him, and that’s absolutely fair, as all is in love and war.

But if he does swim, Rangers just saved upwards of £5M on an excellent young AM and he’s one of our own.
