With the new Premier League season just around the corner, all eyes are on the players who could make a significant impact in the coming months. One such player is Marc Guehi, the Crystal Palace captain, whose future is currently up in the air. As Liverpool continue to monitor the situation, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has spoken about the possibility of Guehi leaving the club.
Marc Guehi finds himself in the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace. Having enjoyed solid performances in recent seasons, the England international is attracting interest from several top clubs, with Liverpool being one of the primary admirers. The Reds recently parted ways with Jarell Quansah, leaving a potential gap in defence that could be filled by Guehi.
Last summer, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were both linked with the 25-year-old centre-back. However, it’s understood that Liverpool, under new management, could make their move for Guehi. With Crystal Palace keen to retain their star player, manager Oliver Glasner has admitted that the power now lies with Guehi himself.

In a recent interview, Glasner acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Guehi’s future. “Marc and me, we have the same fate, a contract expiring at the end of the season, but I can’t speak on behalf of Marc,” Glasner said, as quoted by the Daily Mirror. He continued, “In the end, it’s always the player’s decision and Marc will decide his future.”
Despite the uncertainty, Crystal Palace’s desire to keep Guehi is clear. “Of course, everybody wants Marc to sign a new contract… everybody who is connected to Crystal Palace, at least,” Glasner added. However, he also pointed out the difficulty of keeping a squad together after a successful season, noting that “you never know what happens in this sometimes crazy transfer market.”
For now, the situation remains unresolved. Crystal Palace will hope to convince Guehi to stay, but with his contract winding down, the prospect of a move next summer looms large. Liverpool, as one of the clubs showing interest, may be waiting for the right opportunity to make their move.
Liverpool’s defensive setup has undergone several changes in recent years, with the departure of key players and the need for fresh talent. With Jarell Quansah sold, Liverpool is now in the market for a strong, reliable centre-back. Marc Guehi fits this mould perfectly, offering experience in the Premier League as well as international exposure with England.
Although Liverpool’s primary focus this summer has been on strengthening other areas of the squad, Guehi remains an intriguing option for the Reds. With a potential transfer fee set to be lower due to his expiring contract, Liverpool could look to move quickly, especially if Guehi signals his intention to leave Selhurst Park.
As the two teams prepare for their upcoming clash in the Premier League, Glasner remains confident in his side’s ability to challenge Liverpool. “Of course, Liverpool are always the favourites when Liverpool play against Crystal Palace,” Glasner noted. Despite the odds stacked against them, Glasner remains optimistic, citing Crystal Palace’s recent success, including their victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final earlier in the year.
Liverpool will certainly be the favourites for the match, given their squad’s strength and recent additions. However, Crystal Palace will not back down easily, and with Guehi still in their ranks, they are expected to put up a strong fight.
As the transfer window progresses and the new season begins, Marc Guehi’s future remains one of the most intriguing storylines. With Liverpool keeping an eye on the situation, only time will tell whether the defender decides to leave Crystal Palace or sign a new deal with the club. For now, Liverpool will continue to monitor the situation closely, ready to pounce if the opportunity arises.
