In the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie, Barcelona managed to emerge victorious. The Catalan giants, guided by Hansi Flick, continue their impressive form in 2025. Still unbeaten across all competitions this year, Barcelona have crafted their own success so far.
In their most recent game against Borussia Dortmund, La Blaugrana simply left no way for their German opponents to do anything. Constantly attacking their defense and thwarting any offensive moves that they could muster up, Barça were simply a level above.
Even after the game, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick spoke about his players and the tie in general, as his team completely demolished Dortmund. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the German coach still remains insistent on the fact that the tie should not already be considered over:
“No, no. Not yet. Not yet. You never know what can happen. Football is unpredictable, and we don’t know. In Dortmund, we have to play like we did today. They’re a very good team, and we have to be confident and make as few mistakes as possible.”
For the Barcelona coach, his team is still only halfway through this tie for now:
“It’s the first step, the second is still to come.”
Talking about his team’s progress and results, Flick also spoke about the perfect attack and the quality that his team has put on display:
“Both things are important. We played very well, and that’s the most important. When you play like that, you score goals, which is what happened.”
With Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski all scoring against Borussia Dortmund, there is no denying the fact that the Barcelona attack is enjoying life right now. However, for Flick, the other areas of the pitch are also crucial to help the team succeed:
“It’s a strength of ours. They’re very important, of course, but so is our defense, the midfield… and the players who come on from the bench. They immediately match the level of those already on the field. And that’s really important when you’re playing so many games every three days.”
Moreover, the Barcelona coach also seems to be happy about the fact that his team is enjoying playing together as well:
“I have the feeling that my players are enjoying playing together, and that makes me really happy.”
As for Ansu Fati’s late appearance, Hansi Flick acknowledged that Lamine Yamal came off because he was tired but that Fati would have come on either way during the game’s closing stages:
“I saw that Lamine had played too many minutes. It was good that he (Ansu Fati) came on. He’s training very well and deserved to play. If Lamine hadn’t asked to be substituted, Ansu would’ve come on anyway.”
However, Flick is now focused on the team’s upcoming game in La Liga rather than thinking about the team’s second leg against Dortmund:
“Now, we’re only thinking about Leganés.”
Enjoying a great run of form in 2025, Barcelona are now a legitimate contender for all three major titles left this season. They are first in La Liga with a four-point lead, they have progressed to the Copa del Rey final, and they are now also in a good position to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
