Pep Guardiola has emphatically dismissed speculation over a potential return to Barcelona after admitting his career as manager of the Spanish club is ‘over’.

Guardiola has entered the final months of his contract at Manchester City and has so far failed to confirm whether he will remain at the Etihad beyond the end of the season, with reports having emerged this week that Barcelona presidential favourite, Victor Font, is keen on bringing the Catalan back to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona previously enjoyed the most successful period of their history during Guardiola’s four-year spell in charge, winning three league titles and the Champions League twice amongst a staggering 14 trophies.

The 49-year-old has now moved to dismiss the speculation, however, after watching City secure a hard-fought victory over Sheffield United on Saturday lunchtime, Kyle Walker marking his 100th league appearance for the club with the only goal of the game against his former side at Bramall Lane.

Guardiola insists that he remains happy with life in the Premier League despite the uncertainty surrounding his future and has ruled out the possibility of a Barcelona return, emphasising that his career with the club is ‘over’.

“My career as a manager in Barcelona is over,” Guardiola told BT Sport.

”There are incredible people who can be in charge. Ronald Koeman is an incredible manager. It’s over.

”I will come back to watch a game, but I am happy here, I have the desire to do well and this is the most important thing.

”Now there will be elections in Barcelona, and hopefully they can choose the right person and the right board to maintain the club as it is, at the highest level.”
