Manchester United shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has ruled the Premier League side out of the running to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé (25).

Mbappé informed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he would depart the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season back in February. Les Parisiens are therefore already preparing for life with the France captain, with manager Luís Enrique using him more sparingly in Ligue 1 in recent weeks.

It is expected that Mbappé will join Real Madrid, although this move has yet to be officialised, whilst the player himself denied the existence of an agreement with Los Blancos during a gala in the presence of Al-Khelaifi and Emmanuel Macron last month.

Real Madrid aren’t expected to face any stiff competition and one of the clubs that may have had the financial means to pull off the deal, Manchester United, have now ruled themselves out of the running. “Mbappé to Manchester United? I’d try to find the next Mbappé rather than spend a fortune trying to buy success,” Ratcliffe told Geraint Thomas Cycling Club.

He added, “It’s not that clever buying Mbappé. In a way, anyone could figure that one out, but what’s much more challenging is finding the next Mbappé or the next [Jude] Bellingham or the next Roy Keane.”
