‘It’s not easy’… Hansi Flick praises two other Barcelona players when asked about Ansu Fati’s situation

There is certainly a lot of competition at FC Barcelona, and that is the way it should be. The Catalan giants are looking to fight for every single title possible, and for that they need a hungry group of players. It simply suits Barcelona to have players who are willing to show that they can be counted on when needed.

However, it also means that certain players end up losing a lot of prominence if others overtake them in the pecking order. Such a case can be applied to Ansu Fati’s situation, who has gone from being one of the club’s crown jewels to an out-of-favor forward with barely any minutes this season.

Now, ahead of an upcoming La Liga clash against Girona, Hansi Flick was asked about his situation yet again. The German coach, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, acknowledged that it is difficult for the player but it is also a challenge for other players who have managed to impress even with limited minutes:

“It’s not easy for him, but it’s not easy for Pau Víctor or Pablo Torre either.”

He further elaborated and spoke about how both Pau Victor and Pablo Torre continue to make a good case for themselves, possibly both in games and during training as well:

“Pablo Torre and Pau Víctor have fought hard, and that’s what I want from every player: to show us, the coaches, that they want to play.”

In the most recent game against CA Osasuna, both of those players featured as substitutes. Ansu Fati, on the other hand, stayed on the bench and simply looked on while others got to express themselves on the field.

As for his future beyond this season, there are a lot of reports suggesting that he could be on his way out in the summer. With a rather bleak reality to face now moving forward, it is reportedly seen by both Barcelona and his camp that the best move for the player now would be to possibly change clubs.

So far in 2025, the only minutes that the forward has played were 28 minutes against UD Barbastro in the Copa del Rey. Since then, he has not played at all for Barcelona, and it is clear to see that Hansi Flick simply does not count on him anymore.

It is also important to note that both Pablo Torre and Pau Victor have barely had any minutes either, but their opportunities seem more frequent than those of Fati’s. Either way, Flick’s decision to praise their commitment while downplaying Fati’s situation is definitely an interesting move.
